Hello world!

Hello world!

“Hello world!” is just the default name for a default blog, but it feels very fitting for a first blog here. The idea of someone going outside and saying “Hello world!” to no one in particular, because in all likelihood no one even heard them, seems exactly like writing this first blog. So, if no one is out there, why say it at all? Well, that is exactly what I am starting to figure out.

I have always felt like I needed to minimize myself—to fit into a little box, behave in a very particular way, and do all these very important things so that I had value. If I didn’t fit in, then I felt I had no value. I would be like some old broken junk you keep lying around because you keep putting off getting rid of it. I would just be taking up space. I was (and sometimes still am) terrified of just taking up space.

However, recently I have decided—after years of my loving husband insisting—that it’s good to take up space. It is healthy to take up space. There is nothing wrong with taking up space! It is your space, and you deserve it. So, here it is. My space. I bought it… or rent it, I guess? My little online apartment for me to express my thoughts and feelings and just talk about the things I did and learned today. Obviously not every day, because that would be exhausting, but some days! Some days I will share the cool things I built, made, bought, saw, or imagined, and it will be worth it because it makes me happy. Some days, when I make time for myself, I will share stories and maybe some matching pictures from my life so that I might take up a little extra space in this world—and that’s good.

Hopefully, the longer I take up just this little bit of extra space, the easier it will be to spread and grow outside of here, be the person I’ve always wanted to be, and do all the things I’ve always wanted to do.
